2025 Pilot Program

UDC Scholarships

The Aunt Betty Fund, in partnership with the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), is unveiling an innovative new scholarship program for students within one year of receiving their degree in education and seeking certification to teach in a Title I public school in Washington DC or other US city. The scholarships will range in size from $5,000 to $15,000.

The online link to our scholarship application will open at 11:59 pm on Monday, July 28, 2025. Our deadline for submitting completed applications will be 11:59 pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria for UDC Scholarship

  1. Is a current undergraduate or graduate student in good standing at UDC and enrolling for the Fall 2025 academic semester.
  2. Plans to complete an education degree no later than June 2026.
  3. Attended grades 9-12 and graduated from a US public or public charter school (including overseas schools for children of military or foreign service personnel).
  4. Is a US citizen.
  5. Is willing to commit to teaching at least 3 years in a Title I public or public charter school in DC or other US city. Scholarship funding will be subject to repayment if this commitment is not fulfilled.
  6. Has not previously defaulted on a student loan.
  7. Has no convictions, adjudicated complaints, or settlements involving felonious acts or violation of the rights of others.

Application and Interview Dates

Tuesday July 29 Opening of online application link
Saturday August 16 Completed applications due no later than 11:59 pm
Monday  August 18 Announcement of names of finalists
Tuesday August 19 Interviews of finalists at UDC (4:00 PM - 8:00 PM)
Thursday August 21 Announcement of scholarship awards

Guideline

All responses on your application must be your own work, with no heavy coaching or editing by others. Misrepresenting your academic or work history, credentials, income, student loan balances and payments, other debts, housing status, dependents, tax forms, or other material information on your application in unacceptable. Such misconduct may result in withdrawal or termination of your scholarship.

Your responses to items on each page will be saved automatically when you hit the Next button to advance to the next page. To avoid loss of information you have entered or uploaded, we recommend using the Save button from time to time while working on your application.

We strongly recommend not waiting until the last day to complete and submit your online application. If you miss your desired deadline because of technical or connection problems, or for any other reason, unfortunately you will not be able to apply until the next award cycle.

Additions or changes to your application may not be made after it has been submitted.
